Cambridge A Level Design and Technology is a two-year qualification set by Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). It combines creative design thinking with rigorous technical knowledge and prepares students for university courses in engineering, product design, and architecture.
Cambridge A Level D&T is a practical and theoretical qualification for students aged 16 to 19. It follows the AS and A2 pathway under CAIE, developing skills in product design, materials, and manufacturing across a structured two-year programme.
The qualification is graded A* to E. Assessment combines a written examination covering theory and an individual design-and-make project, known as the coursework component, which carries significant weight in the final mark scheme.
CAIE runs two exam series each year, in May/June and October/November. Most school-based students in the GCC sit the May/June series. Coursework deadlines are set by CAIE and submitted to centres ahead of the written examination.
