Edexcel A Level Art and Design is a Pearson-set qualification for students aged 16 to 18. It combines a large portfolio of personal creative work with a written exam, and carries significant weight in UCAS applications for creative and design courses.
Edexcel A Level Art and Design is a two-year qualification offered by Pearson Edexcel. Students choose a specialist pathway, such as Fine Art, Graphic Communication, or Textile Design, and develop a sustained body of work across the course.
The qualification is graded A* to E. Component 1, the portfolio, accounts for 60% of the final grade. Component 2, the externally set assignment, accounts for the remaining 40%. Both are assessed against four equally weighted assessment objectives.
The externally set assignment is released in January of the second year. Students complete preparatory work before a final 15-hour sustained study period in the summer exam series. The portfolio is submitted alongside this for moderation.
